Sofyan Amrabat’s ties to Manchester United appear to have finally been severed with his removal from the club’s website.

Additionally, the 27-year-old has removed the Red Devils from his bio on social media following the end of his loan spell last term.

The development comes after it was revealed earlier this month that the Moroccan remained as one of the midfielders listed on the club’s ‘players’ section on their website.

Amrabat spent last season on loan at Old Trafford from Serie A outfit Fiorentina and despite a largely underwhelming tenure, he played 90 minutes in Erik ten Hag‘s side’s shock FA Cup final win over Manchester City

In all, the midfielder featured  30 times for United last term, including 21 appearances in the Premier League

The apparent administrative oversight led to some speculation within the fanbase that Amrabat was set to return to the club on a permanent basis this summer.

There had been reports that new sporting director Dan Ashworth had drawn up a five-man shortlist which included Amrabat, as well as Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana, Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Palmeiras’ Richard Rios.

Ten Hag’s side forked out £8.5million to secure his services from Fiorentina for 12 months but there has been no decision made on whether to activate his £21.4m purchase option.

Additionally, Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade claimed in June that the Moroccan international wishes to remain in England next term.

‘I would keep him in Florence but it doesn’t seem like what he has in mind,’ he said. ‘I think he wants to stay in the Premier League but we haven’t heard from anyone yet since.’

Now it seems that a return to the north west is unlikely with only one day before the start of the new top-flight campaign and a little over two weeks before the window slams shut.

Still, United remain active in the market. On Wednesday, they completed the double signing of defensive duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.

Signed for a combined £60m, the pair have reunited with their former Ajax boss at United.
