Francesco Camarda has broken the record to become the youngest player to feature in a Serie A match at the age of 15 years and 260 days.

He takes the accolade from Bologna’s Wisdom Amey, who was 15 years and 274 days when he made his league debut back in 2021 against Genoa.

Paolo Maldini is another name to have held the record, after he made his first senior appearance for AC Milan at the age of 16 years and six months.

Camarda, who has been hailed as ‘the new Michael Owen’, came on for Luka Jovic in the 83rd minute of AC Milan’s 1-0 victory against Fiorentina on Saturday night.

The centre-forward was drafted into the first team by Stefano Pioli after Olivier Giroud was handed a two-match ban following his red card against Lecce.

Noah Okafor had also suffered an injury during the international break, ruling him out of tonight’s game, leaving Milan short of options up top.

It comes as the teenage wonderkid, who has scored four goals in six appearances for the Italian U17 side, only made his debut in the UEFA youth league back in September, during Milan’s 4-0 victory against Newcastle.

He was born on March 10, 2008, and turned 15 earlier this year.

As Camarda’s name was announced over the tannoy at the San Siro, the crowd erupted with cheers for the young star.

He has featured in all but two of Milan’s Primavera 1 matches this season, finding the back of the net in the Italian youth league just once.

While the 15-year-old does not yet have a contract with the Italian side, Camarda has scored seven goals in 13 games at youth level for Milan.

Several illustrious names have previously held the record including Milan legend Paolo Maldini

It comes as Ethan Nwaneri became the youngest player to ever feature in a Premier League match last season at the age of 15 years and 181 days, coming on to feature during Arsenal’s 3-0 win against Brentford in September 2022.

On Saturday, Camarda helped Milan see out their eighth win of the season, with Theo Hernandez’s penalty on the stroke of half-time proving the difference for Pioli’s team.

Milan have endured a difficult spell in Serie A of late, despite now sitting third in the table.

The Rossoneri have won just four of their last ten matches, suffering three defeats and three draws.

They take on Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday before playing Frosinone.
