Frankfurt and Freiburg fail to fire in scoreless stalemate

Having both enjoyed victories in Europe last Thursday, Eintracht Frankfurt did battle with Freiburg to conclude the weekend action. ‘Die Adler’ have been pretty talon-less thus far with a league lowest four goals before today. While their Breisgau opponents had been struggling to keep goals out of late. However, this clash failed to really ignite as it ended in a scoreless draw.

Frankfurt started the livelier of the two as the ball got rolling. Fares Chaibi’s menacing dribbling and directness almost resulted in a penalty. The latter would also find his first effort on goal repelled by Atubolu.

However, it was a quiet half in general with chances few and far between. Lucas Holer with the best of them for the Breisgau side when the ball broke free in the box. Tuta would make a heroic block to keep it scoreless. In fact, the biggest moment of the half was Ebimbe’s foul on Sildillia. Arbiter Felix Zwayer consulted VAR for a potential red card, but it never came to Freiburg players’ frustration.

Götze’s introduction before the hour point almost reaped rewards instantaneously. His neat pass picked out Marmoush who only managed to hit the side netting. A bemused Julian Nagelsmann looked on from the stands, as he surveyed talent worthy of the German national team.

Substitutes rolled on from Streich and Toppmoller’s respective dugouts. Still Freiburg and Frankfurt huffed and puffed for that go-ahead goal. Substitute, Adamu thought his injury time header had done just that only for the linesman ruling offside. That moment would never come in the end, as a drab game finally resulted in the spoils being shared.
