Freiburg extend contract of promising defender

Jordy Makengo has signed a new contract with SC Freiburg.

SC Freiburg have announced a contract extension for 23-year-old left-back Jordy Makengo.

As is customary with the Breisgau club, the length of the deal has not been disclosed.

“The development we hoped for at the last contract extension has come to fruition. With his persistence, hard work, and patience, Jordy has taken another big step and become a key factor in our game,” said Freiburg sporting director Klemens Hartenbach.

“Jordy’s journey is exemplary, especially for other young players. We are far from finished with him on this shared path.”

Makengo, who made 19 Bundesliga appearances last season, commented:

“I’ve been in Freiburg for four years, made it to the professional team here, and have made a lot of progress. That’s why I wanted to stay. Freiburg gives me a very good feeling and I’m a bit proud of that, just like my mother and father.”
