Fulham vs Liverpool – Premier League: Live score, team news and updates as Jurgen Klopp’s side look to bounce back from shock defeat against Crystal Palace with Mohamed Salah on the bench
Fulham begin showing signs that they are starting to settle with a cross being put into Liverpool’s box.
It’s been one-way traffic at the moment but you epect Liverpool’s rapid start to slow eventually.
Fulham 0-0 Liverpool
Liverpool are playing some beautiful football with their defence quickly snuffing out Fulham’s attack before playing the ball quick through midfield and trying to find Diaz in behind.
Fulham 0-0 Liverpool
The Reds continue to knock at the door as Fulham’s defenders are caught backpeddaling in defence and Diaz again finds himself with the ball at his feet in the box.
The Colombian’s first touch takes him away from goal and Bassey theatriclly clears the danger.
Fulham 0-0 Liverpool
A wiicked delivery into the box finds Luis Diaz who has a great chance to score with an early header but ends up getting it all wrong as he heads into the ground. Deary me, what a let off for Fulham.
Fulham 0-0 Liverpool
Liverpool try to get almost every one of their players on the ball in the opening couple of minutes and that is likely to be the theme of today with Fulham trying to play on the counter.
KICK OFF: Fulham 0-0 Liverpool
Here come the players…
Both sets of players are now walking out of the Craven Cottage tunnel. Kick off is now just moments away.
No nerves on Klopp
There is a reason Liverpool fans are nervous today given the fact that a defeat could put them out of reach with the title race.
However, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is all smiles pre-match and has seem confident prior to things getting underway shortly.
Fulham’s recent home form
Today’s hosts were dealt a close 1-0 defeat against Newcastle last time out at Craven Cottage but boast a strong home run of wins against Tottenham, Aston Villa and Brighton before that.
Marco Silva’s side are a staunch opposition on home turf and you sense Liverpool will have to find form amongst their sometimes unpotent attacking trio to take three points away with them today.
Scores elsewhere
There are a couple of games elsewhere in the Premier League today. Everton have beaten Nottingham Forest 2-0 in a huge game at the bottom of the table.
Elsewhere, Liverpool’s conquerors last time out, Crystal Palace, are 4-1 up at half-time against West Ham.
While Aston Villa are drawing 1-1 with Bournemouth also at half-time.
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest have launched an extraordinary statement about VAR which you can read in the article below.
Pre-match stats
Fulham have won just one of their last 11 league meetings with Liverpool – a 1-0 victory at Anfield in 2021.
Liverpool though haven’t kept a clean sheet at Craven Cottage since 2009 and if they lose today then it will be their first consecutive top-flight defeats since Bournemouth and Man City in April 2023.
Klopp explains Salah omission
We play three games in six days. I hate thinking about the game after the one in front of us but in our situation we cannot ignore the fact so we make changes to get fresh legs in to use the squad.
‘It’s the best situation squad-wise we’ve had all year so that’s why we do it. We need them all to start or come on.
We need to be 100 per cent for 95 or 98 minutes. I spoke to Mo and all is fine.
As things stand
So Liverpool can go joint top with Arsenal if they can take three points today.
Easier said than done though as their recent draw with Manchester United and defeat to Crystal Palace suggests.
A defeat today, knowing how consistent Manchester City and Arsenal can be, would likely be curtains on their title challenge.
TEAM NEWS: Liverpool
Well just have a look at that bench. Probably the team you might have expected if Liverpool decided to rest players for their Europa League clash with Atalanta on Thursday.
Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboslai and Ibrahima Konate all on the bench.
Diogo Jota starts up front for the Reds with Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott.
Some big calls there from Klopp, perhaps with the Merseyside Derby this week in mind.
TEAM NEWS: Fulham
Decent team on offer from the hosts. One notable abscence is that of Willian, and manager Marco Silva has confirmed that this is nothing too serious but he is out with a groin strain.
