Storm Eowyn continues to wreak chaos across the United Kingdom as 100mph winds batter coastlines across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland

The horrific gusts have caused mass travel disruption with over 1,000 flights across the UK and Ireland cancelled due to unsafe conditions, while all Scotrail trains in Scotland have been axed on Friday.

Rare red warnings were issued for Scotland and Northern Ireland as the storm posed a danger to life – damaging buildings, uprooting trees and causing power cuts. The alert in Scotland will run until 5pm and was this morning extended over a wider area.

Amber warnings have been issued to parts of England and Wales, with Newcastle United facing travel disruption as their planned chartered flight to the South Coast on Friday afternoon ahead of Saturday’s 3pm kick-off at Southampton looks set to be postponed until the morning.

Events around the UK have been cancelled at last-minute with many urged not to travel unless absolutely necessary in various parts of the UK, and a host of football matches have now been cancelled.

No Premier League, Championship, or League One fixtures were scheduled to take place on Friday, though Swindon’s trip to rivals Newport in League Two is still set to go ahead.

However, a series of Premier League 2 games involving Under-21 teams have been called off with Everton’s trip to Newcastle rescheduled due to adverse weather conditions in the north east.

Paul Tait’s youth Toffees side will instead now travel to Tyneside on on Monday, January 26 with Storm Eowyn set to pass over the weekend.

Similarly, West Brom’s Premier League 2 clash against Middlesbrough has also been cancelled with a new date yet to be rearranged.

In Scotland, Celtic women’s clash against Hearts that was due to be played on Friday evening but has also been cancelled as a result of the devastating storm.
