Gattuso to talk with Gravina for Italy national team job after Buffon meeting – Football Italia

Gennaro Gattuso is set to meet with FIGC President Gabriele Gravina to discuss the currently vacant Italy national team head coach job after a round of face-to-face talks with head of the delegation Gianluigi Buffon earlier this week. 

Gattuso is the current frontrunner to replace Luciano Spalletti as head coach of the Italy national team. 

Spalletti left his role as CT after the 2-0 win over Moldova in World Cup qualifying on Monday night. The former Azzurri head coach confirmed in his pre-match press conference that he had already been informed he would be let go before the Moldova match. 

Now, with Claudio Ranieri having ruled himself out of the running to replace Spalletti, Gattuso is the current frontrunner to become the new national team head coach. 

Italy schedule next round of Gattuso talks

According to updates from Sky Sport Italia on Thursday evening, there will now be a round of direct talks between Gattuso and FIGC President Gravina to discuss the job further. 

Gattuso has already spoken about the job with his former teammate Buffon, who currently holds the role of head of delegation with the national team. Sky claims that the metting between Gattuso and Buffon was positive, and that the coach has given his availability to take over as CT. 

Sky claims that Gattuso and Gravina will speak directly at some point in the next few days, or potentially even as early as Thursday night. 

Gattuso is currently free to take over the national team following his departure as head coach of Hajduk Split earlier this month.
