A second source has confirmed that Geovany Quenda is keen on joining Manchester United but also acknowledged that the transfer is far from a done deal at this stage.

The Portuguese wonderkid was handed his first team debut at Sporting CP by none other than Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim and he quickly established himself as an indispensable part of the side.

Capable of playing on either flank, the 17-year-old can be used as a wing-back and an attacker and this versatility appealed to Amorim, who needs offensive-minded and reliable wing-backs in his three-defender system.

The 40-year-old’s current crop of Man Utd stars is ill-suited to his approach and fresh faces need to be brought in. Quenda, who had already caught the eye of Red Devils scouts before Amorim arrived, has naturally emerged as a top target for the fallen giants.

Indeed, reports in Portugal have claimed that a €60 million deal for the teenager is already wrapped up for the summer window. However, news emerged last week that these assertions were premature and this has now once again been confirmed.

Quenda wants Man Utd but gap in valuation remains

According to Ben Jacobs, there is still a €20 million gap in valuation between Man Utd and Sporting, although the journalist has also confirmed that the youngster is interested in a switch to Old Trafford.

“I think the player is certainly keen on a move to Manchester United, and talks are progressing to see whether something can be pre-agreed ahead of the summer,” Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT. Man Utd’s valuation is below that of Sporting’s.”

“They feel that the player is worth in the region of €40m, whereas Sporting’s perspective is the number that he should be sold for is closer to the €60m mark. So that gulf in valuation is something that all parties are going to have to work on.”
