After suffering a humbling 4-0 defeat to VfB Stuttgart today, VfL Wolfsburg’s Yannick Gerhardt, felt the club’s problems run deep.

“The club isn’t looking good right now and isn’t healthy. The discrepancy between expectations and reality is far too great,” the 31-year-old told DAZN.

Head coach Daniel Bauer, whose position is now under fire more than ever, is still committed to the difficult job at hand.

“I’m ready and willing to go all the way and give my all to keep us in the league. I’m ready, but I’m not the one who decides,” he explained.

The 43-year-old’s expression almost suggested that the possibility of his tenure ending soon is very much at the forefront of his mind.

When asked about Gerhardt’s harsh words, the coach agreed with his player: “The fact is, we need to change many structures.

“The atmosphere and culture within the club is not Bundesliga-worthy. We need to instill a new mindset in the entire structure,” he added.

Before kick-off, Wolfsburg’s supervisory board chairman, Sebastian Rudolph, announced that Bauer enjoyed “100 percent backing.”
