German newspaper BILD have called for national team manager Hansi Flick to be sacked following their humiliating 4-1 defeat at home against Japan in a friendly.

It means that Germany have taken just four wins from their last 17 games.

Germany were knocked out in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and were fortunate to qualify for Euro 2024 as it was automatically granted to them as they will host next summer’s tournament.

BILD have delivered a scathing assessment of Flick and have called for the German football federation to sack Flick immediately.

They wrote on their website: ‘Only four wins from the last 17 games and an embarrassing World Cup preliminary round exit in Qatar – Hansi Flick is the worst national coach of all time.’

BILD say Flick has taken away the 'security and self-confidence' of the German players

BILD say Flick has taken away the ‘security and self-confidence’ of the German players

BILD said ‘enough was enough’ for Flick and that there is ‘no alternative to an immediate separation’.

They added: ‘Flick has experimented with everything this year. None of his ideas worked on the pitch. And he has taken away the security and self-confidence of the players.

‘Fortunately, as hosts, we are automatically qualified for Euro 2024. Otherwise, we probably wouldn’t be there at all. In 2006, it was said that the world were a guest of friends, and Europe as a guest of losers would be appropriate at the moment.’

BILD ripped into his decisions and questioned the form of key players including Ilkay Gundogan, who has struggled for Germany despite leading Man City to a Treble before his summer move to Barcelona.

They highlighted how Niklas Sule was recalled despite being criticised openly in public by Flick in the past, as well as Leon Goretzka’s omission from the side despite his strong performances at Bayern Munich.

BILD said that the best option to replace Flick, Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp is not available, so the best solution alternatively would be Matthias Sammer, ahead of Julian Nagelsmann and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Oliver Glasner.

Sammer has not held a management role since 2005 after coaching Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund, but has since held behind-the-scenes role with the German Football Association and Bayern Munich.

German national team director Rudi Voller slammed their performance against Japan in Wolfsburg on Saturday.

Voller, who was part of Germany’s 1990 World Cup winning squad, was far from impressed at the nature of the defeat to Japan and expects to see a much better display against France.

As reported by Sport1, he said: ‘We can’t s*** our pants now. We’re Germany.

‘Nobody should be afraid on Tuesday. The boys can do it, they all play for top clubs.’

Voller speaking to the press also said that losing 4-1 is a ‘disgrace’ and that he will speak to Flick on Sunday.

He said: We’re all still in shock. Losing 4-1 is a disgrace.

‘We all should take a good look at ourselves and then see what happens next. We would all do well to sleep on it tonight.

‘I just spoke to Hansi – he’s deeply affected. We’ll talk tomorrow about why that happened. That was an embarrassment.’
