Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness recently said it would be a dream come true for him to see Florian Wirtz join the club from Bayer Leverkusen in the future.

But Germany sporting director and former Bayer Leverkusen managing director for sport Rudi Völler believes the 21-year-old would be wise to stay put.

“It would be good for him to stay here for a while before he goes out into the big wide world. It would also be very important for the league,” Völler told Sky Germany ahead of Bayer Leverkusen’s 0-0 draw with Bayern Munich on Saturday.

He pointed out that Wirtz knows what he has at Leverkusen.

“He has just won the championship here and has a great relationship with the people in charge,” said Völler.

“We would all like him to stay in the Bundesliga for a while. He is still very young and already has a top career.”

Wirtz is contracted to Bayer Leverkusen until 2027.
