Germany have confirmed their provisional squad for Euro 2024 this summer.
Julian Nagelsmann‘s side will go into the tournament with expectation on their shoulders as the home nation despite their mixed run of form.
In the last major tournament, at the 2022 World Cup, they were knocked out in the group stage but have shown signs of improvement under the 36-year-old, most recently beating France and the Netherlands.
A number of big-name stars have been called up to the squad, including the likes of Joshua Kimmich and Leroy Sane, though just three players in the 27-man squad play in the Premier League.
Several key players from past squads have also been left out by Nagelsmann, who announced the squad at a press conference in Berlin, including a defender who could be set to lift the Champions League.

Mats Hummels, who has been key to Borussia Dortmund’s run to the final of Europe’s premier competition this season, has been left out the squad.
He made the last of his 78 caps for his country in November, but, at 35, his international career appears to be all but over.
Selected in his place are the likes of former Leeds defender Robin Koch, Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah and Hummels’ Dortmund team-mate Nico Cedric Schlotterbeck.
In midfield, there is no place for Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka, with Manchester City hero Stefan Ortega, who has never been capped by his country at senior level, also snubbed.
One of the Premier League players included in the squad is Kai Havertz, who has enjoyed a successful first season with Arsenal after joining from Chelsea.
He joins the likes of Thomas Muller and Maximilian Beier as the forwards in the squad, with Brighton’s Deniz Undav, who has been on loan at Stuttgart in the Bundesliga this season, making the cut.
The final English top flight player is Pascal Gross, who has been an almost ever-present for Brighton this term.
In total 27 players have been named by Nagelsmann, who has signed a contract extension to lead the side past the Euros and into the 2026 World Cup.
There had been doubts over his future after he initially signed a short-term deal and was linked with a return to the Bayern Munich job, but he will now look to build progress with his nation and has been ruthless in his selection.

Arsenal’s Kai Havertz, meanwhile, is included after an impressive season in the Premier League
At least one player will have to be cut from the final squad, with nations permitted to selected 26-man squads for the tournament.
UEFA confirmed squad sizes had been increased to 26 earlier this month, matching up with recent previous tournaments, having initially reduced the number down to 23.
Nagelsmann has named four goalkeepers in his provisional squad – Oliver Baumann, Manuel Neuer, Alexander Nubel and Mac-Andre ter Stegen – with teams usually taking three to international tournaments.
Between the sticks is therefore an area that may be easier to cut numbers, though there is nothing to prevent managers taking fewer players than the allowed group.
