Germany vs. Turkey preview: Team news and predicted lineups

By Rune Gjerulff   @runegjerulff

Here’s our preview of Saturday’s international friendly between Germany and Turkey, including predicted lineups.

With a 3-1 win over the United States and a 2-2 draw with Mexico last month, Julian Nagelsmann made a promising start to his tenure as Germany coach.

The former Bayern Munich coach will be hoping to build on those performances when Germany take on Turkey in a friendly at the Olympiastadion Berlin on Saturday.

Turkey also enjoyed a successful October, beating Croatia (1-0) and Latvia (4-0) in Group D of the Euro qualifiers, which they lead.

On Saturday, Nagelsmann is likely to stick with the 4-2-2-2 system he introduced in October, with Jonathan Tah, Niklas Süle, Antonio Rüdiger and Bejamin Henrichs likely to form a four-man defense in front of Marc-André ter Stegen.

Ilkay Gündogan and Joshua Kimmich are expected to partner in midfield, while Florian Wirtz and Kai Havertz, who is likely to replace the injured Jamal Musiala, should play in attacking midfield. Up front, Leroy Sané and Niclas Füllkrug are expected to continue their partnership.

Germany will be without Malick Thiaw, Robin Gosens and Chris Führich, who have all withdrawn from the squad. Their replacements are Hoffenheim midfielder Grischa Prömel, who could make his senior international debut, and RB Leipzig left-back David Raum.

In addition to Prömel, RB Leipzig goalkeeper Janis Blaswich and Werder Bremen forward Marvin Ducksch have been called up for the first time.
