Giovanni Reyna’s career has stalled in recent years, but the Borussia Dortmund midfield has been given a potential new lease of life with the possibility of a move to a top European club.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Parma want to sign the USMNT attacker, who has endured a difficult spell lately.

Across the last two seasons, Reyna has scored only two goals in 49 appearances and has chipped in with just another couple of assists. This includes a loan spell at Premier League side Nottingham Forest that failed to take off.

On top of this, he has been criticised for having a poor attitude and has seen his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) collapse from a career-high €50 million in November 2021 to just €7.8m.

With a year left on his contract with Dortmund, the Bundesliga giants are now ready to part ways as they seek to offload the deadwood in their squad and rebuild under Nico Kovac.

Romano reports that a move to Serie A with Parma looks likely.

Writing on X, he confirmed: “Parma submitted formal bid to Borussia Dortmund to sign Gio Reyna as key target for Serie A side.

“LAFC are not in active talks for Reyna despite reports, Parma are on it with fee offered around €6m.”

Is Parma a smart move for Gio Reyna?

Parma will allow Reyna to get back on the field – assuming he can shake off the injury issues that have played a role in his recent dip.

Whether the Serie A side is the best move for the USMNT star, though, is more doubtful. SciSports gives the Italian outfit a Club Fit score of 68 based on a variety of factors ranging from potential development and playing time to tactics and formation.

Reyna will play frequently at the Serie A side, but there are concerns that the style of the side will not suit him, even he is a good fit for the formation. Additionally, they only get two stars in development.

Premier League side Everton are considered Reyna’s best option, with David Moyes’ men getting a Club Fit score of 83.

Nevertheless, Parma offer the opportunity for the American to get back playing, and if he shines in Serie A, he could quickly find himself back at an elite side.
