Borussia Mönchengladbach secured their first Bundesliga win in 217 days on Saturday, defeating relegation rivals St. Pauli 4–0 away from home.

Despite the welcome victory, Gladbach head of sport Rouven Schröder stopped short of giving interim coach Eugen Polanski a clear vote of confidence to stay in charge permanently.

“We’re on the right track and now looking forward to the derby,” Schröder told Sky.

“It’s clear that we’ll have to make decisions at some point. But we’re not going to be pushed into making them too quickly.

“You can see that Eugen connects well with the team. Now we’re focusing on the derby,” he added, looking ahead to next week’s Bundesliga clash with 1. FC Köln.

Gladbach parted ways with Gerardo Seoane on September 15. Since then, Die Fohlen have collected five points in six league matches and reached the round of 16 in the DFB-Pokal under Polanski.

A final decision on Polanski’s future is expected during the international break, following next week’s clash with Köln.
