Alejandro Grimaldo was heavily linked with a move away from Bayer Leverkusen during the summer transfer window.

However, unlike many of his now former teammates, such as Jonathan Tah and Florian Wirtz, the Spanish left-back chose to stay.

In an interview with Sky Germany (via Sport.de), Grimaldo admitted that he did indeed consider leaving the BayArena.

“I did think about a transfer. But in the end, I told myself: I’m staying. And that’s the right decision,” he said.

The 30-year-old added that he feels “very loved by the fans, just as much as by the club.”

“I thought to myself: at least one year here will do me good, so I’ll enjoy this season and give everything,” Grimaldo explained.

Remarkably, the defender has found the net four times in six games for Bayer 04 so far this season.

His contract expires in 2027.
