Marc Guiu does not appear to have a future at Chelsea, according to Spanish media.

The former Barcelona wonderkid arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer after Chelsea pounced on a ‘market opportunity.’ The 18-year-old was available for a bargain €6 million due to a release clause in his contract and the Blues were quick to get him on board.

Several months on, however, supporters would be forgiven for forgetting that the striker is still a Chelsea player. The Spaniard has not even made Enzo Maresca’s matchday squad for the last five Premier League outings, though he did feature for 29 minutes in the comfortable win over Panathinaikos last week.

After Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Newcastle United, Maresca admitted that he feels ‘bad’ and ‘ashamed’ every game because he has to omit players, but it is unclear whether Guiu is simply a victim of Chelsea’s frankly ridiculous squad depth or whether the Italian is not convinced by the youngster.

Guiu, of course, made negative headlines early on for producing one of the misses of the season when he failed to score an open goal against Servette in Conference League qualifying, so perhaps he is just not ready yet.

Guiu has no future at Chelsea

Catalan and Spanish media have begun gloating about Guiu’s time at Chelsea, believing that he would be faring much, much better had he decided to extend his Barcelona contract.

Guiu’s only Premier League minutes this season came in the opener against Man City, with the player an unused substitute against Wolves and Bournemouth and not included in the squad at all for the other six games.

A January loan appears to be almost guaranteed at this stage after a potential exit had already been mooted in the summer. Maresca decided to keep the teenager around in the previous window, but surely he couldn’t do so again in the winter.

Guiu’s career has ‘nosedived’ and Sport claims that he ‘does not have a very promising future at Chelsea.’ It seems that Barcelona president Joan Laporta was correct when he recently stated that “there is no place like Barca and he will realise it later.”
