SC Freiburg took a 1-0 lead against RB Leipzig on Saturday at the Red Bull Arena, but ultimately fell to a 3-1 defeat.

Despite coming away empty-handed, Freiburg captain Christian Günter felt there was plenty to be proud of for Julian Schuster’s men.

“We wanted to come here and stand up to them, and we basically succeeded,” Günter told Sky after the final whistle.

“We gave it our all, were brave and kept trying to play football. That’s why we can be proud of our performance. But on the whole it’s bitter that we lost.

“Leipzig have quality and it was clear that they would come at some point,” added the Freiburg captain.

It was Freiburg’s third Bundesliga defeat of the season, having previously lost to Bayern Munich and St. Pauli.
