Gyokeres has attracted global attention with his blistering start to this season, netting a staggering 27 goals in 21 games for club and country, having scored 43 goals in all competitions for Sporting last year.

The 26-year-old is understood to have a release clause in his contract of around €100 million but Sporting are reportedly willing to sell the Swedish international for closer to €70m, having convinced him to stay at the club last summer.

CONFIRMED: Viktor Gyokeres’ perfect transfer move

Amorim’s departure to United this week has further raised doubts over Gyokeres’ long-term future at Sporting, with reports that he could be targeted by his former manager to move to Old Trafford in the coming months.

However, when asked by Swedish outlet fotbollskanlen whether Amorim would bring him to United, Gyokeres remained tight-lipped over his future, saying: “He probably has some strikers there already, so we’ll see.”

When questioned about whether Amorim had spoken to him about a move, he added: “No, he hasn’t. It’s fun but nothing I attach any importance to because it’s talk and nothing concrete.”

Gyokeres reveals ‘most important thing’ over future

Gyokeres has been linked to teams such as Arsenal, Barcelona and Liverpool in recent times and the forward revealed what he would give priority to when choosing a new club.

Regarding the key factor in his decision, Gyokeres said: “That you get an important role and that you get to play. That is the most important thing. There are other pieces that should also be in place, but I’ll have to take it when it comes.”

However, Gyokeres insisted he was not thinking about his future and had no preference on what team or league he would want to play for.

“[Moving in January or the summer] is not something I think about,” he said. “Of course, you want to play out the season at Sporting and I enjoy myself there, so there is no stress for me to make a move in the future. We’ll see when the time comes.”
