The former German international believes the Bavarians are getting a great player, but one that financially doesn’t suit their business model.
To many, Luis Díaz is Bayern Munich’s star signing of the summer. However, former international Dietmar Hamann is extremely critical of the Colombian’s arrival.
“Luis Díaz is a very good footballer, but what Bayern are doing is not a business model,” Dietmar Hamann said in an interview with the Austrian newspaper Heute.
“Bringing in a 28-year-old for this amount of money and then paying him even more than he earned in England? Liverpool are laughing,” he scoffed.
The German record champions invested up to €75million in the services of Díaz, who was regarded as one of the best wingers in the Premier League last season.
After the departures of Thomas Müller (Whitecaps), Leroy Sané (Galatasaray) and Mathys Tel (Tottenham Hotspur), Bayern had been looking for a new difference-maker.
Munich finally got the green light for Díaz, but they also offered the third-highest transfer fee in the club’s history – A circumstance Hamann finds hard to understand.
“They’ve brought in a very, very good player, but not cheaply,” the 51-year-old said. Although, Hamann feels Bayern are getting “a player with heart and mentality, a fighter with pace.”
