Harry Kane eyeing post-World Cup Premier League return, reports the Telegraph

There are growing industry whispers that Harry Kane could return to the Premier League after the 2026 World Cup, with Manchester United viewed as the most likely destination if he leaves Bayern Munich next summer, as per reports from the Telegraph.

The Bayern München striker is said to be considering a return to England, and while his current deal with Bayern runs until 2027, but reports in Germany suggest it contains a release clause allowing him to leave in the summer of 2026 for a fixed fee of €65 million.

Kane’s current contract with Bayern runs until 2027, but it reportedly contains a release clause that decreases in value each year. Insiders believe the German champions may be willing to do business at the end of the 2025/26 season rather than risk losing him for less or even on a free.

Tottenham hold first-option clause – but with key conditions

Tottenham Hotspur did secure a first-option clause when they sold Kane to Bayern in 2023, but this only applies if Bayern agree to sell and Kane himself is open to a return to north London. There is no fixed fee attached to that clause, meaning Spurs would still need to trigger his release clause or negotiate a transfer fee with Bayern.

Despite this, sources close to the situation believe Manchester United remain the most likely destination for the England captain should he choose to leave Bayern. United have been searching for a top-class centre-forward for several years, and Kane fits that profile perfectly.

Kane continues to deliver in Munich

Since his move from Spurs, the 32-year-old has been prolific for Bayern, scoring 85 goals and providing 26 assists in 96 competitive appearances. He played a central role in the club’s Bundesliga title win last season – the first major club honour of his career.

However, Kane’s connection to the Premier League remains strong. He currently sits second on the league’s all-time scoring chart with 213 goals, 47 shy of Alan Shearer’s record. A return to England would give him the chance to pursue that milestone.

The Telegraph has also reported that Kane’s salary at Bayern decreases annually, another factor that could make a move next summer more likely. Bayern, for their part, are already understood to be monitoring potential successors, with Werder Bremen striker Nick Woltemade among those linked.
