Harry Kane spoke to the media after scoring a goal and assist in FC Bayern’s 2-1 victory against Argentine side Boca Juniors at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup tournament.
FC Bayern striker Harry Kane spoke to the media following FC Bayern’s 2-1 victory against Boca Juniors in the second match of the group stage at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup tournament.
The 31-year-old Englishman scored the opening goal in the eighteenth minute of the match, and assisted on what would ultimately be the match-winning goal from Michael Olise in the eighty-fourth minute, to qualify Bayern for the knockout stage and end an undefeated 6-3-0 streak from South American teams at the tournament.
When asked about the club’s overall performance and their expectations going into this match, Kane said, “Big performance from the guys. We knew it was not going to be easy, we knew that we were going into a very hostile environment; hot weather, it was tough”.
Regarding the performance from FC Bayern in both halves, Kane said, “I thought that the first half was really good, we should have been 2-0 or 3-0 up for sure; second half got tough, they [Boca] put us under a bit of pressure, they got the momentum once they scored – we kind of shifted it back in our direction, and it is great to get the goal and qualify now”.
When asked about getting back on the scoresheet, scoring his thirty-ninth goal of the season after failing to score in a 10-0 demolishing of Auckland City FC in the prior group stage match, Kane said: “As a striker, when your team scores ten and you do not score, you are looking at a missed opportunity, but it is what it is – we expected to win that game, this game was more of a tougher opponent, so I am just happy to help the team with a goal tonight”.
Kane was asked to evaluate his assist on the match-deciding goal from Michael Olise in the eighty-fourth minute, and said regarding that: “It was a bit of a ricochet in the box, the ball fell to me and obviously, Michael was there; I tried to put it on his left foot to open up the space, and you know, he is a great finisher and he finished it off well”.
The last question he was asked was regarding qualification for the knockouts with one match remaining, asking how motivated the club, and Kane himself, are heading into the knockout stage.
Kane stated about this, “It is a massive tournament – we are playing against the best teams in the world. For us, we have always said it is us against us – that is the mindset we have, that we just have to compete to the highest level, and that we should be able to beat most teams. Of course, football is a game where sometimes, things will go against you, but so far, so good in this competition”.
