Harry Kane targeted for sensational Saudi transfer as fresh talks opened

Harry Kane has regularly been linked with a return to the Premier League from Bayern Munich but Saudi Arabia could actually end up being the England captain’s next destination

England captain Harry Kane is reportedly being eyed by clubs in Saudi Arabia as his Bayern Munich deal continues to tick down. The former Tottenham striker has enjoyed a sensational spell at the Allianz Arena following his 2023 arrival.

But Kane only has 18 months left on his current deal, leaving his future up in the air. Saudi sides are now upping their interest as they aim to take advantage of that fact.

According to German outlet Kicker, both Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad are interested in a move for Kane ahead of the summer window – the latter having recently lost former Real Madrid star Karim Benzema to Al-Hilal. It is further suggested that they could choose to activate a £61m release clause written into his contract – albeit that needs to be done by the end of this month.

Premier League interest is also noted but it is not revealed which clubs would be interested in the England star. From Bayern’s point of view, they are in no mood to lose Kane, having already opened talks over a new contract.

“We are talking to Harry,” Bayern director Max Eberl told Sky Germany recently. “Everyone knows at some point a decision has to be made.”

“Harry has great confidence in us and he feels comfortable in Munich. He and his family are settled in. Therefore we’ve got absolutely no reason to rush,” Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen added.

Kane, 32, has enjoyed another sensational season this term. He has scored 38 goals in just 33 appearances in all competitions this season, having netted twice in Sunday’s 5-1 win against Hoffenheim.

Speaking after that game, Kane said: “Obviously there’s been a bit of disquiet around the team in the last few weeks after not winning a few games. That’s why it was important for us to stay calm and true to ourselves. We had a full week to prepare, the level in training was very high.

“You see that the squad is fit, the squad is healthy, everyone’s pushing to be on the pitch. And you saw that again today, especially in the first 15 minutes – we came out with real intensity. Then they were reduced to 10, it disturbed our rhythm a bit.

“We needed about 15, 20 minutes to get back into our game and our style. Credit to Hoffenheim, they’re a good side and play good football. We know we’re coming into the crucial phase of the season now. We have a good lead at the top at the moment but as we saw last week, that can also quickly shrink.

“We said early on in the season that we want to be in a good position with a fit, healthy squad in February, March. We’re top of the table, still in the DFB Cup and finished in the top eight in the Champions League.

“This is a good moment for us. The season begins for real now – and we have to carry on from here and see who can keep up.”

Bayern are on course to add another Bundesliga crown to their collection, having moved six points clear of nearest challengers Borussia Dortmund.
