- Harry Maguire has been impressive for Man United on his return to the team
- He was stymied by two Bundesliga club logos but finished with seven from nine
- Southgate’s loyalty to his players is an issue and a weakness – It’s All Coming Up
Harry Maguire put his European club knowledge to the test ahead of Friday’s clash with Malta at Wembley – and the Manchester United star did surprisingly well.
Maguire had begun the season under a cloud of uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford, having been stripped of the captain’s armband and seemingly fourth-choice centre back.
Yet in recent weeks, due to injuries and ominously dubbed ‘tactical reasons’ he has found himself once again impressing at the heart of defence for Erik ten Hag‘s side.
As such, the noise that so frequently accompanies his inclusion in Gareth Southgate’s England squads has been somewhat lacking this time round, as he gears up to face both Malta and North Macedonia.
However, the former Sheffield United defender was put through his paces in a European football club logo challenge.

It was a poor start as Maguire failed to correctly identify the badge of Bundesliga outfit Augsburg, currently sat 10th in the German top-flight.
But Maguire quickly rallied, correctly guessing Istanbul Basaksehir, Wrexham, Le Havre, Real Vallecano, Red Star Belgrade and Fleetwood Town to make it six from seven.
However the 30-year-old was once again stumped by a German side, as he was stymied by 2021-22 Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt to end his run of six-in-a-row.
After Die Adler, though, he managed to get the final team right, picking out Russia’s most successful club Spartak Moscow to end on 7/9.
Maguire will be looking to continue his strong form with a run in Southgate’s XI to face Malta on Friday and North Macedonia in Skopje on Monday.
The Three Lions need wins against both sides to be sure of their qualification from Group C, but they currently lead the group by three points from Ukraine, having played a game fewer.
England will also secure top-seeding for Euro 2024 – to be played in Germany – with another two wins in the international break.
