After scoring three goals in two games for Germany’s U21 team, 17-year-old Lennart Karl continued his impressive form against SC Freiburg on Saturday, contributing a goal and an assist in Bayern Munich’s 6-2 victory.

With hype around the young attacking midfielder growing, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany is doing his best to offer guidance.

“I think it’s important that the boy enjoys this phase. If a lot of hype comes, that’s okay. That’s all happening outside. He just needs to stay grounded and enjoy football,” Kompany said after the win over Freiburg.

He also stressed that Bayern will continue supporting Karl, even if he experiences a dip in form.

“If things don’t go as smoothly as now, he has to understand that we will support him. We want him to become the best version of Lennart Karl.”

Karl was forced off with a knock in the second half, but Kompany wasn’t overly concerned.

“He got a knock in training and felt it again. But after the match, he laughed a lot and was very happy. I hope it’s nothing serious.”
