Heidenheim
Heidenheim are currently languishing in the relegation playoff spot after winning four, drawing three and losing 16 of their 23 league matches this season. Frank Schmidt’s side have drawn two and lost five of their last seven top-flight games since recording their most recent Bundesliga victory over Union Berlin in January.
They would have been disappointed to miss out on three points last weekend despite halting a five-game losing league run with a 2-2 draw against RB Leipzig. Heidenheim established a two-goal lead at the Red Bull Arena thanks to efforts from Mathias Honsak and Marvin Pieringer. However, Leipzig fought back with goals from Loïs Openda and Benjamin Šeško to deny Heidenheim a much-neeed victory.
As a result of their poor form, they are sitting six points adrift from safety and just outside the bottom two due to their favourable goal difference. Heidenheim will be desperate to boost their survival hopes by claiming their first-ever Bundesliga win over Gladbach.
Team News
The hosts are unable to call upon Maximilian Breunig and Julian Niehues. Meanwhile, Jan Schöppner is set to serve a one-match suspension for an accumulation of yellow cards.
Gladbach
Gladbach are sitting four points adrift of the top six after winning 10, drawing four and losing nine of their 23 league matches. Die Fohlen recently put together a four-game unbeaten run before their impressive run of form was brought to an end in last Saturday’s home clash with Augsburg. Jonas Omlin’s first-half red card proved to be crucial, as Augsburg made full use of the numerical advantage, condemning Gladbach to a 3-0 defeat following Alexis Claude-Maurice’s second-half hat-trick.
Die Fohlen may have experienced disappointment last weekend, but they may be looking forward to Sunday’s road trip after winning their last two away games against Stuttgart and Union Berlin. As a result, they now have the chance to record three consecutive away league victories for the first time since 2020. Gladbach can take confidence from the fact they have won three of their last four competitive meetings with Heidenheim in regulation time, including a 3-2 victory in October’s reverse fixture.
Team News
Gladbach boss Gerardo Seoane is without the services of Moritz Nicolas, Rocco Reitz and Franck Honorat. Meanwhile, Omlin will serve a one-match ban following his red card last weekend.
