Mainz 05 are working on the signing of a new striker, head coach Bo Henriksen has confirmed.

As Henriksen points out, the recent departure of Karim Onisiwo to RB Salzburg has left a gap in the squad.

“When someone like Karim leaves, we have to get someone else,” Henriksen is quoted as saying by Kicker.

“Our squad is not too big and there will be more yellow-card suspensions in the next 19 games.

“I know we’re working hard on it.”

According to Kicker, Eintracht Braunschweig’s Rayan Philippe has been targeted by the Bundesliga outfit.

Armindo Sieb started up front in the 3-1 friendly win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday and looks set to make the starting line-up once more against Bochum on Saturday, with Jonathan Burkardt still working his way back to full fitness.
