Ahead of the Red Devils’ Premier League clash against Brentford, the Dutchman took questions from the media, who had extensively reported that he may be facing the sack during the international break.

United are 14th in the table while they are winless in the Europa League after two matches. As a result, there have been suggestions that Ten Hag may be axed from Old Trafford after just over two seasons in charge and over €600 million spent on transfers.

A draw against Porto and against Aston Villa has stopped the rut for now, Ineos apparently willing to let the former Aajx boss turn things around.

At Carrington, Ten Hag was asked if he had received assurances from the club’s hierarchy. He replied, in no uncertain terms, that any noise about his job was merely made up, with reports in the media being “lies.”

“The noise is only coming from the media, from you guys. From some of you, not all of you, but some of you. Bringing up stories, creating stories, creating fairy tales, making noise, bringing lies.

“Because I know we are all on one page in this club. I told this before the break. I told several journalists, they didn’t believe me. I see the reports, but internally, in the club, it’s quiet.

“Of course, we are discussing the position where we are, that we are unhappy in the position where we are, and we have to turn the corner, what has to happen with a strategy to turn this corner.

“But ultimately, we are quiet, we are composed, we stay where we are, we stick to the plan, and we are very convinced we will make it a success.”

What did United fans say online?

United fans reacted to Ten Hag’s defiant position online, agreeing that most of the noise has come from journalists more than anything.
