Kylian Mbappe was left perplexed after a hilarious moment in which a remote control car broke down on the pitch before France’s Nations League clash with Croatia.

The French superstar was forced to hand off the faulty miniature vehicle after it failed to return to the sideline after taking the match ball to the centre circle.

Similar innovative methods for getting the ball from the touchline to the field of play have been adopted in leagues round the world including Ligue 1, where the striker used to play for Paris Saint-Germain

However, on Sunday night, the normally reliable technology failed and required the assistance of the Los Blancos star.

Having waited for the car to exit the field, Mbappe decided to take matters into his own hands and handed it to the person presumably originally entrusted with operating the daring mission.

Following the unusual start to proceedings, Les Blues were able to compose themselves and overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg of their Nations League quarter-final.

Their two-goal lead after extra time sent the clash into a penalty shootout where the 2018 World Cup winners prevailed over the side they defeated in Russia seven years ago 5-4.

The win sets up a mouthwatering semi-final clash against Spain, who too needed a shootout to advance past the Netherlands following a thrilling 5-5 aggregate score after two matches.

The other semi-final will see Germany take on Portugal on June 4.

It promises to be an action packed summer of football, with the semi-finals scheduled to take place a week before the inaugural month-long Club World Cup in the United States and just four days after the Champions League final.
