The Ecuador international was in an emotional state upon the full-time whistle on Matchday 1.
Piero Hincapié left the pitch in tears on Saturday, August 23, after Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-1 defeat to TSG Hoffenheim.
Sports BILD are reporting that the Ecuadorian could indeed leave the Rhineland club this summer before the transfer window shuts.
Leverkusen wouldn’t be able to prevent a departure as he has a €65million release clause that is valid until the end of September 1.
Currently, both Arsenal and Chelsea from the Premier League are said to be showing concrete interest.
Director of sport Simon Rolfes will hope that the purchase clause isn’t activated after admitting that the defender is key to their plans.
