“His contract will be extended” – Lothar Matthäus on speculation over Harry Kane’s Bayern future

Lothar Matthäus sees no reason for Harry Kane to leave FC Bayern and is confident the striker will sign a new contract.

With Harry Kane’s contract at Bayern Munich set to expire next summer, there has been speculation as to whether the 32-year-old could leave the German club.

For Germany and Bayern legend Lothar Matthäus, however, a departure would make little sense.

“Now he’s winning title after title, which he didn’t manage to do before in England. So I see no reason why Harry Kane should leave this club or his environment,” Matthäus said on the “Sky90 – die Fußballdebatte” show. 

“His contract will be extended. I’m sure of that.”

Matthäus believes it would be a big risk for Kane to leave his successful setup in Munich.

“He knows what he has in his coach (Vincent Kompany, editor’s note); he repays the trust the coach gives him. He plays in a functioning team. Who knows if he would shine elsewhere? Who knows if he could play as well elsewhere as he does here under Kompany?”

Even Kane’s competitors, Matthäus noted, are happy to have him in the Bundesliga.

“He’s a global brand, he’s the second Beckham because everyone in the world knows him. He has no haters – not in Frankfurt, not in Dortmund.”
