Deniz Undav is going through a barren spell in front of goal for VfB Stuttgart, having failed to score in his last six games.

He was dropped to the bench for Stuttgart’s last game, a 3-4 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen, while Ermedin Demirovic and Nick Woltemade started up front.

Asked about Undav’s dip in form at a press conference on Thursday, Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeness said:

“At the end of the day, he’s missing the feeling of success.

“Every career is made up of ups and downs, and now he’s going through a phase in which things don’t come so easily after a phase in which he performed at a very high level for a long time.”

He added that he’s happy with what he’s seeing from Undav in training.

“He is now back in the VfB focus and showing the attitude we need against Frankfurt.

“We need his skill and finesse to get back to winning ways.”

Stuttgart go into Saturday’s game without a win in their last five matches.
