Hoffenheim complete two more deadline day signings

While the names arriving certainly weren’t the ones traded, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim were able to complete two more deadline day deals yesterday. A new arrival in central defense saw Brazilian youth international Arthur Chaves sign-on in Kraichgau. The 23-year-old had often been linked with a move to Germany due to his affiliation with another Dietmar Hopp financed club, Académico de Viseu Futebol Clube.

The Hopp-connection may not necessarily help current rumors circulating in the German press that Hoffenheim’s controversial patron has kept his word to step back from club affairs. Hopp owns over 51% of the shares in the Portuguese second division side through an investment company that he controls a major stake in. No details concerning the transfer fee were disclosed. 

Whether or not the youngster is prepared to play a significant role in Pellegrino Matarazzo’s squad remains to be seen. In his statements accompanying the signing, interim TSG sporting director Frank Kramer did note that Chaves would be “given the opportunity to take the next seps in his career by proving that he can adapt to this level”. The player himself maintains an estimated €1.2 million market worth. 

Hoffenheim’s other transaction of the day saw the Sinseheims sign Turkish attacking talent Erencan Yardimci from Eyüpspor Kulübü for a reported €4 million. The 22-year-old was immediately loaned out to Austrian Bundesliga champions Sturm Graz, where he could conceivably play ahead of FC Bayern München attacking midfield prospect Lovro Zvonarek.
