In an effort to bring in a replacement for Nick Woltemade following his move to Newcastle United, VfB Stuttgart reportedly tried to sign Max Moerstedt from Hoffenheim on deadline day.
According to Kicker, Stuttgart were willing to offer around €15 million for the 19-year-old striker, but Hoffenheim immediately turned down their inquiry.
Moerstedt’s contract with Hoffenheim runs until 2027, with the club keen to tie him down to a new long-term deal.
Stuttgart’s late pursuit came after Genk’s Hyeon-gyu Oh unexpectedly failed his medical.
Despite that setback, the Swabians were able to bolster their attack late on with the signings of Bilal El Khannouss and Badredine Bouanani.
