Manchester United’s move for Rasmus Hojlund was always destined to end in disaster, according to a remarkable report that claims three of the Dane’s team-mates did not even want to pass to him.
Hojlund finds himself edging towards the exit at Man Utd this summer as Ruben Amorim prepares to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.
The Denmark international is set to leave Old Trafford having scored only 26 goals in 95 appearances, following an €80 million move from Atalanta in 2023.
Now the Manchester Evening News has detailed just how poorly Hojlund was rated by his colleagues – and not just for what he did on the field.
Samuel Luckhurst reports: “Hojlund was always destined to fail. Switching to the same agency that represented Erik ten Hag marked his card with some teammates.
“One United player shook their head at the mention of Hojlund. Another lamented how few tackles he won, his lack of pressing and aerial sickness. A senior figure at the club questioned Hojlund’s work rate.
“Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot have all given him short shrift on the pitch. Players were genuinely reluctant to pass the ball to Hojlund in his first season amid reservations about his hold-up play.”
Exit nears
Hojlund is destined to leave Man Utd, with talks progressing over a potential loan move back to Serie A.
AC Milan are tracking the 22-year-old, according to Matteo Moretto.
He would move on a one-year loan deal with a fee around the €5-6m mark, and a buy option would be thrown in. This is liable to be set in the region of €35-45m.
The total value that Man Utd might rescue from the Hojlund deal is, therefore, set to be in the region of €40-50m, which is in line with the striker’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €47.2m.
