Rasmus Hojlund has hit the ground running since leaving Manchester United for Napoli in the summer with the Denmark international no longer part of Ruben Amorim’s plans
Rasmus Hojlund is already regarded as one of Serie A’s most impressive strikers after his loan move to Napoli from Manchester United.
The 22-year-old attacker secured a switch the Italian side on a season-long loan deal this summer following Ruben Amorim’s decision that he was not needed at Old Trafford. Although he initially wanted to remain at the Theatre of Dreams and compete for his spot, despite the signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko, his choice to depart appears to have been vindicated.
Hojlund managed just four Premier League goals for United during the previous campaign, contributing to the club’s dismal 15th-place finish in English football’s top tier. Yet in merely six outings between Serie A and the Champions League, the £72m forward has already equalled that scoring record while playing under Napoli boss Antonio Conte.

Lazio ace and Denmark colleague Gustav Tang Isaksen has revealed how Hojlund is perceived in Italy following his struggles at United. “Yes, they always say he’s one of the best,” Isaksen told Viaplay Sport Denmark.
“So I think a lot of people have recognised how good he is,” Isaksen told Viaplay Sport Denmark. “They consistently say he’s among the top players, yes.”
Denmark manager Brian Riemer has, meanwhile, taken what appears to be a subtle swipe at United regarding Hojlund’s displays for Napoli.
When asked if Hojlund could still thrive in England, Riemer said, via TipsBladet: “I think Rasmus has the quality for both leagues, without discussion.
“Does he fit in Italian football? Yes. There was no doubt about that, because he had already proven that.
“But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t fit in English football. On the contrary, I would almost say.”
He added: “The fact that he is now on a well-functioning team and has players around him who take pride in doing good for others helps to make the outcome for a striker like Rasmus, who needs to be serviced. It is more important than which league you play in.”
