Football fans are furious after a horror tackle in a Victorian NPL football match from a former A-League star that broke an opponent’s leg.
The match was between high-flying Avondale FC and the Dandenong Thunder, with Avondale eventually thrashing their opponents 8-0.
The visitors had taken the lead in the first half when ex-Mariner’s player Jordan Smylie slid in with a spiteful challenge on Kristian Trajceski.
Trajceski was left lying on the turf clutching his injured leg, while his teammates rushed in to confront Smylie.

The referee was left with little option but to show the 24-year-old a red card, with the ferocity of the tackle undeniably dangerous.
Football pundits were appalled by the challenge and took to social media.
Football journalist Sacha Pisani posted to X: ‘Horrific scenes in NPLM VIC last night after ex-Mariners forward Jordan Smylie was sent off for this challenge on Avondale star Kristian Trajceski. Trajceski was taken straight to hospital – reports of a broken leg.’
Manchester United and Premier League champion Mark Bosnich was quick to reply, posting: ‘Disgusting… these tackles and whoever performs them have no place in football anywhere… the player who performed this should be banned for as long as Trajceski is out of action.
Other footy fans were outraged by the behaviour and echoed Bosnich’s remarks.
‘Absolute no place for that in any sport. Hope Trajceski recovers quickly & best as possible,’ replied one.
‘If you get so frustrated by your/your team’s performance that you decide to produce a tackle like this then you shouldn’t be playing,’ replied another.
Last month, fan violence forced the abandonment of a match between the Oakleigh Cannons and Dandenong Thunder.
Mark Bosnich was shocked by the challenge and said it had no place in the sport
Footage circulated on social media at the time showed one fan being knocked out cold in disturbing scenes after fans spilled onto the pitch at Jack Edwards Reserve in Oakleigh, Victoria.
Security were unable to contain the situation and police were called in to defuse the violence. Fans were eventually escorted from the pitch long after the match was abandoned.
Approximately 500 fans were at the game and some allegedly threw items at the police and others in the vicinity.
