Horst Steffen expects his Werder Bremen side to look forward to the weekend’s game against Borussia Mönchengladbach after a 2-0 home defeat to TSG Hoffenheim on Tuesday. Bremen were unable to take advantage of the visitors playing with ten men for the majority of the second half.
“In the first half, Hoffenheim put us under a lot of pressure,” said Steffen after the game. “During the half-time break, we talked about how we could play through it. The red card obviously goes in our favour, but then you simply cannot concede a second goal straight after. That just makes things unnecessarily difficult.
“As the game drew to a close, we had several attempts on goal, but we weren’t decisive enough. We’ll keep working on our patterns of play. Maybe it’s a good thing that we’re back in action fairly soon, so we won’t be dwelling on this game too much.”
Steffen sees the opportunity of climbing up the table when they host the team that sits only two points ahead of them on Saturday. “We’re coming up against a side that isn’t pushing the top of the table in Borussia Mönchengladbach, but it will still be a tough match.”
