In a deal that seemed to come out of nowhere, Eintracht Frankfurt signed Michy Batshuayi on a permanent basis from Galatasaray late on Monday.
Citing club sources, Kicker reports that if the transfer process had taken 10 seconds longer, the necessary paperwork wouldn’t have been submitted to the German Football League (DFL) in time.
Apparently, Batshuayi didn’t even undergo the usual medical tests. Instead, according to Sky Germany, there was merely an exchange between the two clubs’ doctors.
According to Kicker, Eintracht had been monitoring Batshuayi for some time, but didn’t want to match Galatasaray’s initial asking price of €8 million.
However, after Galatasaray signed veteran Spanish striker Alvaro Morata from AC Milan, the pressure to get rid of Batshuayi increased – and Eintracht took advantage, ultimately paying €3.5 million including bonuses for the striker.
According to Kicker, Batshuayi will forgo up to €7 million in wages as a result of the move. He was reportedly earning €4.5 million a year in Istanbul.
