Bayern Munich claimed a 3-1 victory over Sporting CP on Tuesday night, with teenage star Lennart Karl playing a key role and scoring the decisive goal.

By scoring, Karl made history: at 17 years and 290 days old, he became the youngest player to find the net in three successive UEFA Champions League matches.

The previous record was held by Kylian Mbappé, who was 18 years and 113 days old when he did the same.

Karl was named Player of the Match, with the UEFA Technical Observer Group explaining their decision as follows:

“He posed a constant attacking threat, creating chances and achieving a high pass completion rate alongside a goal demonstrating an outstanding technical level. His ability to receive the ball between the lines and play forward also showed his football intelligence, while he displayed defensive value through ball recoveries and winning 55% of his ground duels.”
