Pep Guardiola has committed his future to Manchester City after agreeing a new contract in principle with the Premier League champions.

Guardiola is set to pen an extension to his deal which could run another two years until 2027, in a significant boost to City.

Mail Sport’s Mike Keegan revealed in May that Man City were keen for Guardiola to extend his stay at the club and how club chiefs were handling his future.

Manchester City want Pep Guardiola to sign a new, long-term contract that would see him extend his trophy-laden stay at the Etihad Stadium beyond a decade.

The Catalan, who has overseen an era of dominance since taking the reins in 2016, is out of contract at the end of next season.

He is yet to make a decision on what happens next and City bosses will support him in whatever he chooses, such is his standing at the club.

However, Mail Sport understands that they would like to see Guardiola, 53, pen a significant extension which would allow him to add to the 17 major trophies he has lifted following his arrival eight years ago.

City will place no pressure on Guardiola and the decision will be his. It is also understood that he has discussed the situation with at least one key player over dinner recently to gather their thoughts and input.

Should Guardiola decide to extend, the move would more than likely ensure he would be at the helm when a conclusion to the Premier League’s investigation into the club – which has seen them charged with 115 alleged breaches of financial rules – is reached.

On Sunday, Guardiola’s men defeated West Ham to clinch a sixth top-flight title in seven years and land a historic four in a row. On Saturday they face rivals United in a repeat of last year’s FA Cup Final which they won 2-1.

Guardiola has previously signed three new deals at City, who refused to comment when approached on the matter.

After City’s victory over West Ham, he seemed to suggest an exit at the end of next season was the likeliest outcome.

‘The reality is I am closer to leaving than staying,’ Guardiola said. ‘We have talked with the club – my feeling is that I want to stay now. I will stay next season and during the season we will talk. But eight or nine years – we will see.’
