La Roja’s only victory in this tournament came back in 2010, and they’ve often been seen as slight underachievers at this level.

Still, Spain will go into the 2026 World Cup as reigning European champions, having beaten England in the Euro 2024 final, and they’ll hope they can add another trophy to their collection this summer.

With the likes of Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, Pedri, and Martin Zubimendi on their books, there’s no doubt Spain have one of the best squads out there, and their unique brand of football is almost always a joy to watch, so make sure you don’t miss out!

Who are Spain playing in the group stage?

Spain have suffered group stage humiliation before, such as in 2014, but it’s hard to see them having much trouble with this set of teams.

Luis de la Fuente’s side are up against Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, and Cape Verde in Group H, and barring a big surprise, they will surely win this group quite comfortably.

Uruguay have had some fine teams in the past, but this isn’t really a golden generation like we’ve seen in recent history when the likes of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani were at the peak of their powers.

Spain’s opening fixture is against Cape Verde on Monday, June 15th.

Spain have a big pool of talented players to choose from, including some familiar faces from the Premier League.

Arsenal trio Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, and David Raya will surely be involved if they’re fit enough, while young Gunners centre-back Cristhian Mosquera could also be an outsider to make it in.

Manchester City’s Rodri will also surely be there, as will Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, plus former Premier League players like Ferran Torres and Dean Huijsen.

Picking a first XI won’t be that easy for De la Fuente, but we’d guess if everyone’s fit and available it’ll be something like this…

Spain predicted line-up: Simon; Carvajal, Cucurella, Le Normand, Huijsen; Rodri, Zubimendi, Merino; Williams, Yamal; Morata
