As Ruben Amorim takes his Manchester United players to the Toon to face Newcastle United, Mirror Football takes you through everything you need to know before the clash
Manchester United travel to Newcastle United in desperate need of their first April victory. Ruben Amorim’s side were forced to accept a 2-2 draw against Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals first-leg.
In added time, the Red Devils were leading 2-1 through goals from Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee, but Andre Onana, who had already pushed a cross from Thiago Almada into his own net, spilt an effort into the path of Rayan Cherki, who equalised in the 94th minute. Wounded and without a victory since their 3-0 away triumph over relegation-bound Leicester City, Amorim’s side could be destined for an arduous afternoon at St. James’ Park.
Newcastle are chasing down the top four and are close to qualifying for the Champions League for the second time in three years. They have also won their last three Premier League matches and are still buoyed from their League Cup final triumph over Liverpool.
As United and Newcastle fans prepare for the clash, Mirror Football takes you through everything you need to know to tune into the game on television.

Team news for Newcastle vs Man Utd
Despite the lack of positivity at Old Trafford, a lot of United’s biggest players are coming back from injury. Amorim deployed an unchanged starting XI from United’s recent 0-0 draw against Manchester City and will surely ring the changes against Newcastle United.
Injury hit Mason Mount made his third cameo off the bench, while Kobbie Mainoo was also introduced onto the field by Amorim. Luke Shaw, who has only played 98 minutes of football in all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign, was an unused substitute.
However, long-term absentees Ayden Heaven, Jonny Evans, Amad Diallo and Lisandro Martinez will not be involved. It’s also understood that Matthijs de Ligt and Toby Collyer, who missed the clash against Lyon with minor injuries, will undergo further assessment.
On Newcastle’s side, assistant manager Jason Tindall revealed they will make a late call on Anthony Gordon to see if he will be available. He also suggested that they will be able to call on Alexander Isak, who has been recovering from a groin injury.
In their press conference, he said: “He’s trained, and he feels fine. It’s something that we’ll assess day by day, but we’re expecting him to hopefully be available for the weekend.”
On Gordon, he added: “He was back on the grass for a pitch session yesterday. We’ll assess him again today to see how he’s responded to that session, then we’ll have to make a late call over the weekend to see how he is for Sunday.”
