HSV confirm Damion Downs signing

Damion Downs is back in Germany, having signed for Hamburger SV on loan.

Hamburger SV have completed the signing of Damion Downs from Southampton.

The 21-year-old striker has joined the Bundesliga club on loan from Southampton for the remainder of the season.

“With Damion, we have already filled an open spot in the squad early in this transfer window. He knows the Bundesliga and brings an interesting mix of quality and potential for development,” said Hamburger SV’s sporting director, Claus Costa, on the arrival of the former 1. FC Köln forward.

“Damion is a forward who combines size, pace, and intelligent movement. His strengths in transition play and presence in the box make him a perfect fit for the profile we developed in close coordination with the coaching team.”

Downs, who will wear the No. 19 shirt at HSV, commented:

“I’m extremely excited to be at HSV and to start this journey with the club. I had very good talks with the sporting staff, which gave me a strong sense of the task ahead. Now I can’t wait to bring my strengths onto the pitch and play again at the highest level in Germany.”
