Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set o return to Milanello either on Thursday or Friday after a 19-day absence, during which time the typically outspoken Swede went completely silent; No interviews, no social media posts, no talks with the Rossoneri squad.

Here’s where Ibrahimovic has been and what the future has in store for him.

Where has Ibrahimovic been?

According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ibrahimovic has been struggling with illness over the last few weeks, which is why he has not been seen around the Milan camp recently.

He has not posted on social media either, despite usually being an active user, and has not given any interviews since his talk with GQ was published in February.

Ibrahimovic had initially been part of Milan’s search for a new sporting director, and was present in a series of meetings with potential candidates and their representatives in London, but it is understood that CEO Giorgio Furlani will have the final say in the matter.

La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that there is a possibility that Ibrahimovic’s role changes in the future. He is currently an advisor to the club’s owners, Red BIrd, but does not technically have a settled role within the club.

There is a chance that Ibrahimovic takes on a position slightly more behind the scenes if and when the Rossoneri appoint a new sporting director.

For now, though, he is still a valued member of the Milan set-up, and in the short-term is expected to meet up with the first-team squad at Milanello to lend support ahead of their upcoming trip to Napoli in Serie A.
