In preparation for Friday’s clash with 1.FC Köln, a rather determined Christian Ilzer spoke of his TSG Hoffenheim side’s desire to defeat their newly promoted Bundesliga visitors.

“We expect an opponent with great enthusiasm and has done very well so far. We’re prepared for a thrilling duel against a team that hasn’t made it easy for any opponent to date.

“The coach [Kwasniok] is putting a positive spin on the team – in all phases of the game. They play selflessly, which makes 1.FC Köln a very unpleasant opponent.

“Whether we play away or at home – our goal is to win in every game. That’s the case on Friday, too. We’ve been thinking about this for a while.

“We want to show on the pitch that we’re ready for a difficult game. If we do our job well, we can hopefully celebrate a home win,” he added.

The Austrian gaffer continued and offered a personnel update on his squad which seemed to be largely positive aside from those with long-term injuries.

“Tim Lemperle is fit; he has finally recovered from his minor muscular problems. We can draw on a full squad. It looks good that most players will be available,” he said.
