The Dutchman had wanted the club to bring in the midfielder last season and they did so, but he came in on a loan deal.

Amrabat joined up with the club but he failed to make an impact with the Red Devils.

Journalist Andy Mitten said on Talk of the Devils that after internal discussions the club opted not to resign him.

Amrabat’s FA Cup final performance against Manchester City led to speculation that the Premier League giants could take up the option to sign him on a permanent deal. As part of the move last year, Man Utd had €20m option in their deal with Fiorentina.

The Moroccan midfielder made 30 appearances at Man Utd, playing a variety of roles, including as a left-back.

Amrabat was snapped up by Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho this summer. The player joined the Turkish giants on loan, with Fenerbahce paying Fiorentina €2m and a further €13m (£11m) to sign him permanently upon the conclusion of the campaign.

Amrabat moves to Turkey

Mourinho took charge of Fenerbahce in June and he has gone on to buy former Man Utd player Fred.

Man Utd posted an article on their website confirming Amrabat would not stay, instead wishing him well. “Everyone at the club would like to thank Sofyan for his contribution to the club last term, and wish him all the best for the future.

After joining the Instanbul side, Amrabat posted on Instagram: “I am proud to join this big and amazing sportclub with its rich of history and tradition. I cant wait to play in front of the loyal and passionate Fenerbahce supporters! I promise to honour the jersey by giving everything on the pitch.

“Thank you for the warm welcome, and I look forward to sharing many unforgettable moments together Inshallah. See you soon, Sofyan.”
