Inside Jack Grealish’s visit to humble social club: Man City star made heartwarming gesture to locals before being snapped stumbling out of Newcastle nightclub

‘Gentleman’ Jack Grealish stunned regulars in a social club by paying £500 towards the drinks tab for everyone in the bar.

The 29-year-old Man City star is thought to have been visiting a friend – the brother of England ‘keeper Jordan Pickford – when he popped into North Biddick Social Club in Washington, Tyne and Wear, on Sunday

Word quickly spread on social media that the heart-throb midfielder was in town and the club quickly began to fill up with fans.

That prompted Grealish’s exit – but only after he’d spent time chatting to locals, posing for pictures and then put £500 behind the bar to pay for drinks.

At just £2.90 a pint at the modest venue on the bank of the River Wear, his money went a long way.

One local said: ‘Jack was a total gentleman and £500 is enough to keep the whole bar in pints for a good few hours. What a star he was, he can come back any time.’

Grealish is thought to have been visiting his friend Richard Logan, 37, brother of Pickford and a former professional footballer with Darlington.

At around the time Grealish was in the social club, Richard posted on his social media: ‘Never seen word spread around so much. Wow. Ridiculous,’ adding a laughing emoji.

On Tuesday, the club declined to comment, a barman telling Mailonline: ‘He just came in for pint, it’s his own business so we don’t want to go on about it.’

One local who was in the club at the time said: ‘He was with a couple of friends who live nearby and I think they just fancied a quiet pint in a place where Jack wasn’t going to get any hassle.

‘Word spread very quickly though and people started to arrived from all over to see him, it’s such an unexpected place to see a big football star.

‘He was a really, really nice guy. Nothing was too much trouble for him, he sat and chatted with the locals and was happy to pose for pictures.

‘But when he paid for everyone’s drinks that was just amazing, he didn’t need to do it but he did and it showed a lot of class and generosity.

‘He’ll definitely be welcome back if he ever wants to come down again.’

Grealish, who joined City for a British-record £100million fee in 2021, made a rare start against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday evening and played 90 minutes in the 3-1 FA Cup win against the Championship strugglers

A day later, he was spotted at North Biddick Social Club, happily enjoying the budget booze with his mates.

The establishment proudly boasts of their ‘unbelievably low prices’ that punters allows punters to ‘save a small fortune’.

A menu last year shows prices for pints ranging from £2.94 to £3.60. Elsewhere, a bottle of prosecco comes in at just £9.90, while spirits will set customers back as much as £2.95, with prices for vodka, whiskey and gin far cheaper.

Hours earlier, Grealish had posed for photos with locals outside the Lord Nelson pub in Gorton, Manchester. The City star also held a baby while posing for a snap with kids inside the pub.

The Facebook account of the pub posted the snaps, with the accompanying message: ‘Look who popped in. Jack Grealish paid us a visit today.’

The sighting comes just two weeks after he was seen leaving an A-list hotspot with a mystery blonde woman after City’s crushing European exit at the hands of Madrid.

Last month, Grealish, who recently welcomed his first child with partner Sasha Attwood, was seen leaving Chiltern Firehouse in Marylebone accompanied by the mystery blonde. However he was then heard shouting: ‘She’s not with me!’.

Grealish then doubled back into the venue before returning shortly after, alone, and sneaked into a chauffeur driven car, just after midnight. He later denied that he knew who the blonde woman was.

A number of other notable names, including Mark Ruffalo, Ellie Bamber, Morena Baccarin and Jamie Carragher, were also in attendance at the celebrity hotspot.

Last week, Attwood appeared subdued as she made a quick trip to Sainsbury’s near their home in Cheshire, dressed casually in a black Prada fleece jacket and sweatpants.

Grealish became a father in October when Attwood gave birth to their daughter, Mila Rose.

She appeared to be enjoying a night in on Sunday, taking to Instagram to post a image of ‘organic sourdough’ cookies alongside one of the couple’s dogs.

The news comes shortly after Grealish admitted that 2024 was ‘the most difficult year’ of his life.

The former Aston Villa captain was part of a Manchester City side that won a fourth Premier League title in a row last season.

He had also seemingly struck up a lethal partnership with Erling Haaland in the Norwegian’s first season at the club that yielded a Champions League Treble, Pep Guardiola’s side’s first European honour.

However, he only started 10 league games in that record-breaking campaign, before missing out on a place in the England squad for Euro 2024.

Grealish said: ‘Last year, the whole year itself, it was weird because my little daughter was born, but apart from that it was one of the most difficult years – probably the most difficult year of my life for many reasons, on and off the pitch.

‘I found it really difficult. But it’s a new year, a sort of fresh start, and hopefully I can kick on from here.

‘I feel like in my last few games that I have played – against Palace, Salford and Orient – I am trying to be involved more in the goals and assists.

‘Listen, I want to start playing more often and have that rhythm – the way I was a couple of years ago when I was playing a lot of games in a row.

‘I do find it difficult at times to come in and out of games, not really playing. Hopefully I can keep training well and playing a few more games.’

Grealish has made his 14 starts this season- three of them came against League Two Salford City, League One Leyton Orient and Championship Plymouth.

Sources at City have been intimating privately that this summer could be the end of the road for Grealish at the club.
