“Intense 48 hours with ups and downs” – Jackson and Bayern boss reflect on transfer drama

At his official presentation at Bayern Munich, Chelsea loanee Nicolas Jackson and board member for sport Max Eberl discussed the challenging negotiations that preceded his move.

Just before the transfer window closed, Nicolas Jackson completed a season-long loan move from Chelsea to Bayern Munich.

The deal was thrown into serious doubt upon his arrival at Munich airport, as an injury to Liam Delap prompted Chelsea to reconsider sending him out on loan.

However, after Jackson and his agent made it clear how much he wanted the move to happen, Chelsea ultimately agreed to let him join the German champions.

“They were tough moments, but I was very confident I’d get to stay here because this is where I wanted to come. I’d already spoken with the coach and the club bosses. I’m pleased to be here,” Jackson said during his official presentation at a press conference on Friday.

Sitting alongside him, Bayern’s sporting board member Max Eberl reflected on the challenging negotiations from the club’s perspective.

“It was actually all sorted on the Saturday, up until Liam Delap’s injury,” Eberl said. 

“‘Jacko’ was then clear in saying he wanted to stay. It was a big fight. The key was that we had a player who really wanted to join us. It all worked out in the end, which is the most important thing. 

“It was an intense 48 hours with lots of ups and downs, but we were really focused on making it happen and found a good solution. We’re really pleased Nicolas is here.”

Jackson could make his Bayern debut when the German champions face newly promoted Hamburger SV on Saturday evening.
