“Before they said I didn’t score in the Champions League, now it’s the opposite,” Lautaro said when asked about perceived differences between Serie A and Europe, with quotes via CalcioMercato.

“I always give my maximum to make the fans happy, and I’m fine like that.”

The Argentina international also spoke about facing several compatriots in Atlético’s squad, noting warm relationships off the pitch but total focus on the contest itself.

“We always talk a lot because Argentina teams are full of Atlético players. But tomorrow everyone defends their shirt, for ninety minutes we’re rivals.”

He expects a fierce test in Madrid and stressed Inter’s determination to respond after the Derby setback. “Atlético are a very important team with their people behind them. It will be a special match for attackers. We’ve studied them well and hope to execute what we prepared.”

Lautaro rejected suggestions Inter are struggling physically, after the 1-0 loss to Milan at the weekend.

“This team is strong. We’re ready, and we’ll try to bring points back to Italy, it’s important for us.”

He also downplayed memories of their previous meeting two years ago, emphasising the present. “That match is the past. My relationship with Julián Álvarez is very good, we’re friends, and I’m happy for what he’s doing for club and country.”
